Poco Judo’s Michael Kearney completed this fall’s twelve night Nage no Kata (Forms of Throwing) clinic held out at the Steveston Judo Club. The clinic wrapped up on December 5th with the announcement that Michael had passed his first degree black belt grading and has been promoted by the Judo B.C. Grading board to the rank of Shodan. Congratulations Mike!

Mike was awarded his black belt from Head Instructor Dave Speight in class last Tuesday.

The belt is one of a kind, and is embroidered with the words “Iron Mike” in pink. In other, possibly unrelated news, Assistant Head Instructor Rick Blanchard has recently discovered the identity of the individual who put Vancouver Canucks stickers on his Montreal Canadiens sandals.

First Pub Night Fundraiser of the Year! This is an adults-only pub night at the Treehouse Pub in Poco!

 Sunday Oct 30th @ 5 pm Sharp – Treehouse Pub – 2099 Lougheed Highway, Poco

Ticket price is $20.00 per person

A couple of notes

• Buy lots and buy them early!!!
• Menu will be “home style” fresh made hamburgers (not frozen) and fries or salad or a chicken burger, plus a glass of Rickards or wine.
• The fun stuff will include a “toonie toss” and the ever popular 50/50 draw

Our goal is to sell 50 tickets, and we would like to see more of the newer parents out. These fundraisers are vital for us to send our students to national competitions. If you can’t make the fundraiser a donation would be appreciated

Registration starts the first day of class on September 13th.

Classes are Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre.

Poco Judo Mini II Tournament

We’re having a second Poco Judo Mini II Tournament scheduled for Thursday, June 2, 2011. Be sure to register at the club.

• Entry fee is only $20.
• The 6PM class starts fighting at 6:15PM.
• All other classes start fighting at 7PM.
• No more than 6 contestants will be in a group. You’ll be grouped by age, weight & rank (where possible).
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd places count towards our “most points trophy”!
• Signup May 24, 26 and 31st!

Pizza & refreshments to follow in the dojo after the tournament!!! Don’t be late!!!

Spring Session Grading

• Grading is the following week, Thursday, June 9, 2011. There are no classes on this date.

Summer Session Begins

• The Summer Session starts Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
• It’s only going to cost $75 per judoka!!!

The team from Poco Judo was at the Nationals again – this time in Edmonton, Alberta! Everyone did a great job, and we had some winners as well.
